School-based Pantries
MCHPP has partnered with the Brunswick School Department and MSAD75 to open school-based pantries at Brunswick’s former Coffin School and Topsham’s Mt. Ararat Middle School. These pantries have many similar items to traditional weekend bags but with the addition of cold storage they can also provide, dairy products, frozen meat, fruits, and vegetables. Often, the pantries also stock personal care items and diapers.
The pantries are open to all families with a child who attends school in their district and are a convenient way to access free, healthy food. School-based pantries increase choice, decrease waste, and provide food for the whole family while decreasing stigma and transportation, and schedule challenges by serving families in a place they are already visiting daily.
Please contact the schools directly with questions about pantry hours. Other questions can be directed to Caroline at cdaigle@mchpp.org or 207-725-2716 x308.
