Community Outreach Efforts

The Food Security Coalition (FSC) provides consultation, resource assistance, and networking opportunities to volunteer-run food security organizations in the greater mid coast region.

The Food Security Coalition is comprised of representatives from more than 25 food pantries, soup kitchens, farms, and other community organizations committed to addressing food insecurity in mid coast Maine. By working together, the FSC seeks to identify ways to source food, fundraise, improve services, support the community, and increase volunteerism. If you have questions or want to join the Food Security Coalition’s email list, please email Eden.

Pantry Partners

Through the Pantry Partners initiative, MCHPP offers free access to food within our inventory to smaller food pantries across the region. Any member agency of the Food Security Coalition is welcome to access this service on behalf of their pantry guests.

This service allows us to help pantries that may lack the vehicles, staff, volunteers, vendor relationships, storage space, or other infrastructure needed to source an adequate amount of food for their programming. As a Pantry Partner, agencies have access to more, and higher quality, food by tapping into MCHPP’s sourcing network of retailers, farms, and donations. The service also helps MCHPP to reduce food waste and better meet our mission of providing people with access to healthy food by diverting excess inventory to other food pantries that would otherwise have gone unused by our programs.

Pantry Partners receive a weekly email list of available items to select from and are able to pick up product at MCHPP as frequently as once per week.
