Merrymeeting Gleaners

About

The Merrymeeting Gleaners is a volunteer group that was formed in 2016 as part of the food security work being done by the Merrymeeting Food Council. In 2021, the Gleaners joined MCHPP as our newest program, still performing the same great work, now as an official part of our agency. This shift allows the Gleaners to utilize MCHPP’s substantial infrastructure, and the agency gains a valuable source of sustainable, local produce. Volunteer gleaners harvest surplus food from local farm partners year round and redistribute it to over 30 organizations in the region that support individuals and families experiencing food-insecurity. 

In addition to using the gleaned produce in MCHPP’s existing grocery and meal sites, and delivering it to other organizations in the area, the Merrymeeting Gleaners host Sharing Tables at locations in Arrowsic, Bath, Bowdoin, Harpswell, and Topsham. Sharing tables are open to anyone, there is no income or residency requirement and they are 100% anonymous. The tables are stocked with fresh produce as well as some prepared items, processed using any surplus gleaned food. Take what you need and leave the rest for your friends and neighbors.
